Calliope Brass’ debut album Rose Strewn Course!
The album’s namesake painting, Quinn's Iron Horse and Rose Strewn Course to Paint Creek, is dubbed by the artist, Sarah McRae Morton, as “not as rosy as it may seem.” The painting is about a particularly bloody battle between union miners and the coal company owners during the 1912 West Virginia mine wars.
The diverse music on this album reflects the complex and at times strenuous journey the five women of Calliope Brass have undergone to achieve their present performing careers. Nothing is as rosy as it seems!
