— Concert Programs —
The prolific quintet Calliope Brass performs a gamut of rich music in Rose Strewn Course, aimed for audiences in concert settings, including universities, chamber music series, festivals, and more. The program’s namesake painting, Quinn's Iron Horse and Rose Strewn Course to Paint Creek, is dubbed by the artist, Sarah McRae Morton, as “not as rosy as it may seem.” The diverse curation of music—new, old, jazz & folk—reflects the complex, occasionally pugnacious journey the five women of Calliope Brass have undergone to achieve their present performing careers.
The program’s composers consist of Thelonious Monk, Australian composer Emma Gregan, Leonard Bernstein, a French folk tune arranged by Sterling Procter, and Kevin McKee. As a registered nonprofit organization, Calliope Brass aims to inspire audiences of all ages and genders to see women as music makers—up close and personal. For student or young artist oriented programs, additional masterclasses are available.
